What we check, and what we refuse to claim

  • Warranty is a ranking axis

    Twenty percent of every score is the warranty term, quoted from the maker's page with the date. A lifetime guarantee outranks a longer ice hold on purpose: it is the difference between buying once and buying twice.

  • Ice hours are attributed

    Every ice-retention figure names the test that measured it: OutdoorGearLab, Outdoor Life, Treeline, Outside. “OutdoorGearLab measured 6.8 days,” never “it holds ice 6.8 days.”

  • Parts, not claims

    Fifteen percent of every score is whether the latch, gasket, plug, lid or straw is sold. A cooler you can fix for $12 in year six beats a cooler you have to ship back.

  • No fake testing, no stale prices

    We don't claim to have filled coolers we don't own. Amazon prices change daily, so buttons say “Check price” until a live feed exists. The rubric.
